Join our team – grow with us at Stanford

We are dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and welcome students, fellows, and scientists from all backgrounds.

In our lab, you will have the freedom—and the supportive mentorship—to reach your full potential.

We are metabolic biologists investigating how adipose tissue communicates with neurons, neuroscientists mapping the neural circuits that govern memory and energy homeostasis. By bringing these complementary strengths together, we aim to uncover fundamental biological principles and translate discovery into meaningful impact.

If you are passionate about science and motivated to make a difference, we would love to hear from you!

  • We invite talented postdoc candidates to join our lab. Please email Wenfei your CV, a brief statement of your research interests and your motivation for joining the Sun Lab, and contact information for 2–3 references (with a note on your relationship to each). We are looking for creative, independent scientists who will drive their own projects and also enjoy collaborating in a team setting.

  • We welcome Stanford PhD and MSTP students from all departments or programs (Neuroscience, Biology, Genetics, Bioengineering, etc.) for lab rotations. Prospective graduate students can join the lab through Stanford Biosciences programs such as Stanford Biosciences or BioEngineering. If you are interested in our research, email Wenfei to introduce yourself and include your CV and a short description of your research interests.

  • Medical trainees (e.g. residents or fellows) interested in research are encouraged to get in touch. We offer a rich environment to develop your research skills in neurobiology and metabolism. Email Wenfei your CV and a statement of your research interests to discuss potential projects.

  • We are happy to host visiting graduate students or scholars who wish to gain research experience at Stanford. If you are interested in a research visit (typically a few months to a year), please email Wenfei your CV, research interests, and what you hope to accomplish during your time in our lab.

  • Recent graduates looking for 1–2 years of research experience before graduate school are welcome to apply. Our lab offers exposure to both experimental and computational biology. To apply, email Wenfei your CV and a brief description of your research interests and any prior research experience.

  • Motivated undergraduates (from Stanford or other universities) are invited to contribute to our research. To apply for a part-time or full-time research position during the academic year, please email Wenfei your CV, an unofficial transcript, and a one-page statement about your research interests, why you want to join the lab, and the time frame of your commitment. Stanford undergrads can also get involved through university research programs.

For summer research internships, undergraduates from any institution can apply through Stanford’s summer programs, for examples the Amgen Program and Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF).
